Americans for Responsible Solutions, which we are launching today, will invite people from around the country to join a national conversation about gun violence prevention, will raise the funds necessary to balance the influence of the gun lobby, and will line up squarely behind leaders who will stand up for what’s right.

Until now, the gun lobby’s political contributions, advertising and lobbying have dwarfed spending from anti-gun violence groups. No longer. With Americans for Responsible Solutions engaging millions of people about ways to reduce gun violence and funding political activity nationwide, legislators will no longer have reason to fear the gun lobby. Other efforts such as improving mental health care and opposing illegal guns are essential, but as gun owners and survivors of gun violence, we have a unique message for Americans.

We have experienced too much death and hurt to remain idle. Our response to the Newtown massacre must consist of more than regret, sorrow and condolence. The children of Sandy Hook Elementary School and all victims of gun violence deserve fellow citizens and leaders who have the will to prevent gun violence in the future.

– Gabrielle Giffords (the former Democratic U.S. representative from Arizona.)

  1. Yes,America, if you don’t protect your children…

  2. Statistics don’t lie. It is easy to see when you look at other countries with strict gun laws and the rates of gun deaths in comparison with the US where the problems lie. We must make it harder for unstable people to get their hands on guns designed to kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. There is no reason for these guns to be anywhere but the military. I am with you! I am signing petitions and speaking out wherever possible, and I live in the deep south where it is a very unpopular opinion. When your “fun” endangers others’ lives, then my right to life trumps your right to “fun!”

  3. Gun control policy is like living by the sword, it could be protective or self-destructive

Laws are only band-aids, we all need to ask why people have guns? Is it from fear? Fear of what? Who inflicts fear? Do our mentors use same kind of weapon? What do they use them for? What message do they convey to the young of their society?
I guess nobody does wrong when one knows how to do right. We need to be educated in love and respect otherwise, just take a look at what is going on around the world. I would think that it does not take much for one to feel frustrated and impotent,

  4. Great questions, Vanilda, the answers to which would help us deal with the problem.
I would add another one – who profits from the gun culture?
    Answer – ‘follow the money’.
